At 03:55 the cognitive enhancement trial in Ward 5 exceeded its parameters. All 555 test subjects showed rapid cranial expansion. Their brains grew past the skull and kept going.
Subjects remained conscious, cheerful and extremely hungry. Staff described the mood as "unsettlingly friendly."
At 05:55 the power failed. When the lights came back, every bed was empty. Five subjects were never re-logged: the gold one, the one with the bolt, the one with the headphones, the grave robber, and number 555.
